Bird watching

Spectacular bird life on Islay

At our bird paradise are over 100 different bird species, a lot of them also breed here regularly.

Amongst other things, you will find cormorants, golden and sea eagles, northern gannets, black guillemot, hen harriers, lapwings, oystercatchers and puffins. Every winter more than 50,000 white-cheeked geese and several other species visit the island to spend the winter here.

There is no bad season for birdwatching on Islay. Many bird species live here permanently and the geese and winter ducks hibernate for around seven months.

In any case, it is worth visiting the RSPB Loch Gruinart reserve
